All lengths are in centimetres. A solid is made from a hemisphere of radius xx and a cylinder of radius xx and height yy. The volume is 500cm3500\,\mathrm{cm}^{3}.
(a)
Find an expression for yy in terms of xx and show that the surface area SS is given by S=3πx2+1000xS = 3\pi x^{2} + \dfrac{1000}{x}.
