3.7 diagram
In this question all lengths are in centimetres.
The diagram shows a right triangular prism of height hh inside a right pyramid of height 1212 with equilateral base ABCABC of side 88. The base of the prism sits on the base of the pyramid. Points PP, QQ and RR lie on OAOA, OBOB and OCOC respectively, and pyramids OABCOABC and OPQROPQR are similar.
(a)
Show that the volume, VV, of the triangular prism is given by V=39(ah3+bh2+ch)V = \dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{9}\bigl(ah^{3} + bh^{2} + ch\bigr) where aa, bb and cc are integers to be found.

(b)
It is given that, as hh varies, VV has a maximum value. Find the value of hh that gives this maximum value of VV.
